Objective In the class Invention Design we had to explore new applications for existing technology. Idea After a few approaches we came up with the idea to build an architecture and city planning tool. The tool should be a digital alternative to paper or wooden models. The Outcome The outcome was a set of two applications as well as a setup consisting of both a kinect and a flatscreen placed on top of a table. The Kinect is mounted to the ceiling above the table. That allows us to track the viewers head position. Using this data we can now display 3D models on the screen that are distorted to look like real three dimensional objects in the room. The viewer can even walk around the table and view the objects from all angles. Via an iPad app the user can interact with the scene by rotating, moving or lifting different objects.
