My team and I designed and developed Beo as our semester project for our class Application Design. The objective was to redesign an existing application. We decided to take a shot at current mobile communication methods.
Our Approach Our goal was to combine the organizational features of something like a facebook group with the multimedial possibilites of Google Wave while maintaining the conversation flow and simplicity of regular chat apps like WhatsApp. Aside of simple messages users can create shared lists or live polls. In order to prevent content from getting lost in the conversation history every conversation has it's own Agenda. The Agenda is a place were users can store lists, messages or polls that are currently relevant to the group. The UCE (Unobtrusive Content Enhancement) analyzes typed text and offers suggestions to the user. If a user types in an enumeration of items or tasks the UCE will present him a button that will automatically create a shared list from those items.
Outcome
The outcome was a web app basen on a MySQL filebase that allowed the audience at our presentation to chat and try out our product live while we were presenting.
